PALPEBRAL CONJUNCTIVA EXAMINATION It is important to evert the upper lid and examine the palpebral conjunctiva for papillae, cysts, concretions, foreign bodies, irritation or other anomalies. With the patient in the head rest, have the patient look down and grasp the upper lid margin over the lashes. With a cotton-tipped applicator or other stylus placed at the upper lid sulcus (just above the tarsal plate) lift the lid up and evert it over the stylus.
